Interview with Shivam Bansal, Director & CEO of JJ Plastalloy
Q. Please tell us about your current role. What are your key focus areas and responsibilities?
A. As a Director & CEO of the company, I have complete oversight across the organization. I lead an exceptional team of over 500 dedicated professionals who consistently strive towards achieving our company’s vision. The departments - Product Development, Sales, and Human Resource Development, fall under my oversight. My primary focus has been on designing, implementing, and continuously improving our business processes by leveraging digital technology to streamline and automate workflows, enhancing overall efficiency. I place significant emphasis on employee skill enhancement, retention strategies, and cultivating a positive workplace environment for every member of the company. Here too, digitization plays a crucial role in driving productivity and employee satisfaction.
Q. In your opinion, what do you consider to be the greatest development in the plastics compounding sector in recent years?
A. Just like the evolution theory, the plastics industry has witnessed remarkable evolution in recent years. This is primarily driven by diverse and sophisticated end-user requirements. Customers today seek highly customized products that precisely meet their functional needs without any unnecessary costs associated with overdesign. As a result, we’re experiencing a wide range of specific and customized requirements. This trend has led to increased demand for specialized masterbatches, or polymer compounds tailored to region-specific and application-specific criteria. Furthermore, the rapid pace of change and the industry's shift towards "just-in-time" inventory management have compelled us to remain agile and responsive. This continuous demand for innovation keeps us dynamically engaged in enhancing our processes and product offerings to exceed customer expectations consistently.
Q. What special opportunities and challenges do you see in the Indian market compared to other regions?
A. The Indian market presents unique opportunities alongside distinctive challenges. Customers in India have become highly demanding, emphasizing precise product performance and stringent compliance with international standards. The "Make in India" initiative by the Indian government has further strengthened the industry's commitment to delivering excellence, maintaining brand reputation, and adhering to global regulatory requirements. This evolving market scenario positions us, as masterbatch and compound manufacturers, not merely as suppliers but as knowledge partners. We collaborate closely with customers, guiding them in selecting optimal materials and ensuring robust product performance. This collaborative approach, supported by extensive R&D at our Tatva Knowledge Center, has enabled us to leverage knowledge-sharing effectively, driving innovation and new product development.
Q. How do you see the sector developing in the next five to ten years?
A. How are customer requirements changing? In the recent past, there are two most prominently spoken of themes in the polymer industry—Sustainability and Safety. These areas have become focal points of industry discussions and product innovations. Over the next five to ten years, we anticipate significant growth in demand for products that support these critical areas. As manufacturers of masterbatches and polymer compounds, we have proactively developed a broad portfolio tailored specifically to sustainability and safety applications. Our product range includes innovative solutions addressing fire safety, heat safety, electrical safety, light safety, and maintaining polymer properties through multiple recycling processes. We foresee these applications continuing to dominate the industry, guiding our ongoing product development efforts and strategic focus.
Q. You will be speaking at the Recycling and Compounding Expo in India, could you give us a preview of what you will be talking about?
A. I will focus on illustrating the integral role we, as masterbatch and compound manufacturers and exporters, play in advancing Sustainability and Safety within the polymer industry. I will highlight how our specialized solutions and dedicated R&D contribute to addressing key industry challenges, supporting sustainable manufacturing practices, and enhancing the overall safety and quality standards of polymer products.
